Yoga Teacher Membership Guidelines

The globally accepted professional credential for Yoga Teachers

We are an inclusive organisation. We accept teacher that has 200 hour or higher Yoga Training/Yoga Therapy from a registered or non-registered YA-International school.

A Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) credential is earned by yoga teachers whose training and teaching experience meet Yoga Alliance Standards.

A Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (ERYT) credential is earned by yoga teachers if they  have successfully completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training and have taught a certain number of hours.

Master Yoga Teacher (MYT) applications are assessed on an individual basis using a variety of criteria including prior education, long standing teaching experience (over 25 years), knowledge, skills and status gained through working in the yoga industry, and community service and publications.

In January 2019, we reinstated “Grandfathering”. We grandfather senior teachers that have been teaching over 10 years full time but do not have formal certification.

To apply applicants must:

  1. Complete a minimum RYT-200 hour training from a registered or non-registered YA-International school (RYS). Graduates of a non-registered school to be able to convert membership to us must fully meet our Standards

  2. The first 200 hour must be completed with the same school as multiple trainings cannot be combined to meet the 200-hour requirements. Additional training does not have to be from the same school.

  3. Complete a First Aid Course with a recognised training organisation.

  4. Maintain high Standards of professional conduct and competence at all times.

  5. Adhere to the Yoga Alliance-International’s Code of Ethics for RYT as part of their effort to help preserve the traditional legacy of Yoga and improve the quality of Yoga teaching and practice in the modern world.

  1. We recognise membership/registration from selected yoga organisations only.

  2. Membership from other organisations cannot be transferred to us but can be converted.

  3. For all Grandfathering applications resume’ & letters of reference.

  4. To renew membership, all RYT-200/250 PLUS/350 must complete Continuing Education Activities.
